Quigley painted Muhammad Ali 11 times and met the boxing legend in the 1990s. In 2005, Ali granted usage of his likeness for the Skrapper clothing line through a handshake agreement, facilitated by their mutual friend—collector, philanthropist, and film producer Gregory Brown.
A former Black Panther from Mount Vernon, NY, Gregory Brown was one of Quigley’s closest friends and his first major Los Angeles-based collector, acquiring over 15 paintings starting in 1989. Brown was a key organizer of Nelson Mandela’s U.S. tour in 1990 and played a profound role in Quigley’s life—both artistically and personally.
From the early 1990s until his passing in 2020, Brown was a driving force behind Quigley’s charitable work, offering unwavering support and inspiration for his art and activism.
