William Quigley – American History after 1980
Original oil on canvas, 74 × 74 in.
Estimate: $65,000 – $70,000

This print portrays Ronald Reagan, the 40th President of the United States (1981–1989), at the pinnacle of American capitalism. His policies shaped global economic growth and transformed American culture and living standards. The composition features cubistic layering, map-like terrain, the word “’Twas,” and continuous blue and red lines, offering an aerial view of American pride. A lifeguard stand with the American flag symbolizes border protection and openness, while a 1986 college drawing of Reagan and a green cartoonish head represent commerce. Previously the 33rd Governor of California and a Hollywood actor and union leader, he departed office with a 68% approval rating. Quigley has also painted Presidents Bush, Clinton, and Obama, as well as a 2006 portrait of Donald Trump, purchased in 2013, with proceeds supporting veterans and the East Hampton Guild Hall.

The work is represented by The Bonnier Gallery inquiries for interest may be directed to the gallery. The prints were published by PitchBlack Editions.
