The Boxers is William Quigley’s ongoing series, begun in New York in 1999, evolving from a single commissioned portrait into over 100 prints and 50+ paintings. Early commissions include Jack Johnson, the first Black heavyweight champion in 1908, and James J. Braddock, “The Cinderella Man,” whose 50 professional wins, 27 knockouts, and 1935 heavyweight championship epitomize resilience. In tribute to Braddock’s career, this print is a rare edition of 50, in only one size.

Quigley’s 2011 KO edition of 60 prints opened at $500 and has since appreciated to $5,000, with very few remaining, demonstrating the enduring collectibility of his boxing works.

Through confident portraits, traditional stances, head-to-head bouts, and knockdowns, the series explores boxing’s cultural impact and the fighter’s psyche, drawing conceptual parallels between preparation, endurance, and courage in the ring and in life.

Hand-signed. Artist-supervised. Archival museum-quality print.
