From 2011 to 2013, William Quigley worked in Concord, MA at the Wheelhouse Bradford Mill, cultivating a close connection with the local community and deepening his appreciation for Boston’s rich history and culture. A lifelong sports fan from Philadelphia, Quigley resonated with the city’s passionate, hardworking spirit, reflected in legendary athletes such as Carl Yastrzemski, Bill Russell, Larry Bird, Tom Brady, Bobby Orr, and Ted Williams. This iconic portrait of Williams has  been exhibited in Boston, including paintings of iconic figures such as Ted Williams alongside other portraits like Nat King Cole and Jack Johnson. In a featured show benefiting The Price Center, several of Quigley's abstract paintings—including his portrait of Ted Williams—were on display, reflecting both his cultural reach and local ties to Boston sports history.

Ted Williams—"The Splendid Splinter," the last man to hit .400, and arguably the greatest pure hitter in baseball history. widely considered the greatest pure hitter in baseball history, finished his 19-year career with a .344 batting average, 521 home runs, and an all-time record .4825 on-base percentage. His most famous numbers include the 1941 .406 average (the last to break .400), two Triple Crowns, and 19 All-Star appearances, all while missing nearly five prime seasons due to military service.Quigley captures Williams in his prime, a perfectionist obsessed with the science of hitting who interrupted his career twice to serve as a Marine Corps pilot in World War II and Korea. Williams hit .406 in 1941 and refused to sit out the final day to protect the average—a decision that defined his competitive integrity. Beyond stats, he was a complex figure: war hero, fisherman, iconoclast. This piece honors a man who mastered his craft with relentless discipline and never compromised. For collectors who understand that greatness requires sacrifice.
