Teddy Roosevelt served as the 26th U.S. president from September 14, 1901, to March 4, 1909 becoming the youngest US president assuming office following the assassination of William McKinley He was later elected to a full term in 1904. Known for his "Square Deal" policy, trust-busting, and extensive conservation efforts, including reserving 200 million acres for national forests. Encouraged to run again by the Progressive party for a third term, he left office in March 1909 after losing the Republican nomination to Taft, declining to run for a third consecutive term. His third-party run split the Republican vote, allowing Democrat Woodrow Wilson to win the presidency.
The Teddy work was inspired by the political unrest and upheaval in our country, yearning for a utopia with strong leadership working together as a proud United nation that looks out for and helps each other out rather than the hatred and division that exists today among US(A) over politics.
Part of Quigley's ongoing examination of American history and leadership and the ideals that once united us.
