Part of Quigley's Boxers series, which began in 1999 with a commission from Italian fighter and luxury brand PR legend Venanzio Ciampa. The series draws a metaphorical parallel between the prizefighter and the painter—two figures engaged in solitary, disciplined, and often brutal battles for recognition and survival. Quigley's favorite fighter in the 1990s was Mike Tyson. His raw, uncompromising intensity and pure grit mixed with Ali's free-flowing poetic seeming aloofness backed by a powerful unassuming punch have inspired the Skrapper mentality along with athletes like Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Shaquille O'Neal, Tom Brady, and Derek Jeter.
